If you are looking to golf through out the year, but do not want a golf factory or resort environment, then New Bern may be just the place for you. New Bern offers a wide variety of courses. Most are semi-private, which means that you can join by paying an initiation fee and then fixed monthly dues or you can choose not to join but pay a greens fee whenever you want to play. There are also some clubs that are private and provide a country club atmosphere. Bermuda fairways and Bent greens give the courses excellent playing conditions.
The nearby Atlantic Ocean tempers our weather when compared to nearby central North Carolina. Our average daily high in January is 54 degrees to 51 in Charlotte and 50 in Raleigh. It does get cold on occasion, but rarely is there a week without at least 2 days with highs in the 50s. More often would be a nice stretch of days in the 60s. July's average high is 88 degrees while 90 in Charlotte and 89 in Raleigh. The ocean and the nearly 1 mile wide Neuse River combine to create a nice gentle flow of air on most summer days. The evenings usually provide some relief with the average low at night in July being 71 degrees.
